Efficiency Advocate Highlights Building Sector Report

Energy efficiency improvements in buildings could save the United States more than $100 billion in the effort to cut carbon emissions, according to a recent analysis from Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (Berkeley Lab). That striking figure and other highlights from the "U.S. Building Sector Decarbonization Scenarios to 2050" report are the subject of a new blog post from the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).

Carbon emissions from buildings could be cut 91% below 2005 levels by 2050 with a combination of increased energy efficiency and switching from fossil fuels to clean electricity, the Berkeley Lab report found.

The work "underscores the continued importance of policies and programs to reduce the energy use of our buildings and the equipment within them," writes NRDC's Lauren Urbanek.
